Bompers slot REVIEW
Bompers ReviewIt’s a bit surprising that the very elegant Gravity mechanic hasn’t taken more off since ELK first introduced it with Cygnus, but perhaps Bumpers will be the breakthrough title. It certainly holds that potential, not only due to the excellent audiovisual experience, but also because of innovative features like Bomper Wilds and the brand new X-iter™ Modes.
The latter is an in-game menu where you can purchase a variety of core features, but we’re unsure how the UK Gambling Commission is gonna like that. The arcade/pinball team meshes as perfectly with the disco/dubstep soundtrack as the Bomper Wilds do with the Gravity/Avalanche mechanic. The game has several other exciting features up its sleeve too, including a bonus round with a single spin max win of 5,000x your stake.
Bompers Reel Screen
Central to the gameplay is ELK’s innovative Gravity mechanic, and winning symbols are removed via the Avalanche feature. A fresh batch of symbols will then drop and tumble down, and each Cascading Win increase the number of rows and win ways as follows:
4 rows = 4,096 win ways
5 rows = 15,625 win ways
6 rows = 46,656 win ways
7 rows = 117,649 win ways
8 rows = 262,144 win ways
You have 2 kinds of wild symbols in this game. Regular wilds step in for all pay symbols like wilds usually do, and then you have the Bomper Wilds feature that can trigger at random times.
You can manifest up to 5 Bomper symbols at the start of a symbol drop, and these remain frozen in place at random positions. Every time a Bomper is hit by a regular symbol, its meter is charged. A full meter requires 7 “hits”, and it turns the Bomper into a wild that remains in place for the duration of an Avalanche sequence.
Mystery Bombs can trigger at the end of an Avalanche sequence, and these symbols transform themselves, as well as all connecting symbols, into a randomly chosen identical symbol. If multiple Mystery Bombs go off in such a way that transforming symbols overlap, all overlapping symbols turn wild.
A Shooting Star symbol will strive to move up the grid. When it reaches the top, it will generate a bouquet of up to 7 symbols (including at least 3 wilds) around itself. The star itself also turns into a regular pay symbol. The generated symbols then drop down and tumble into place on the grid, possibly generating a new Avalanche Win.
You win 7 Free Drops when you land 3 bonus ‘B’ scatters in sight during the same Avalanche sequence. You then get up to 5 Bompers randomly placed on the grid, before the bonus round starts. If/when these Bompers turn wild, you keep them for the duration of the feature. The free spins feature can be retriggered indefinitely by landing 3 new bonus scatters.
ELK’s innovative X-iter™ Modes feature makes its debut in this game, and it allows you to purchase different features. The normal mode is for regular gameplay, and then you have 3 Bomper modes. Pay 25x your stake for 3 symbol drops with +1 added Bomper per spin, or 50x for 5 symbol drops and 300x for 10 symbol drops, respectively. The bonus round can be purchased for 100x your stake, but we don’t think the X-iter feature will be available for UK players.
The 200 Spins Bompers Experience
We have an unusually lengthy highlights video for you this time, but it’s jam packed with exciting features. You get a taste of the base game first, and at 1:18 into the 8-minute video we purchase the top-tier X-iter Mode: 10 symbol drops with increasing Bompers. We managed to turn 6 of 10 Bompers wild, and the bonus round is purchased right after, starting at 5:55.
Audiovisually, Bompers is a real feast for the senses, and ELK’s gravity mechanic syncs perfectly with the pinball/disco theme. Be sure to play with a decent pair of speakers (or headphones), as the bouncy soundtrack is miles above the jazzy elevator music found in so many fruit slots. The core gameplay has that “oddly satisfying” quality that just makes you want more and more.
The innovative Bomper symbols can be highly effective, but don’t forget that they need 7 hits each to turn wild. Purchasing the 3-drops feature can be risky in that regard, but enough bomper wilds can crank out solid payouts for sure. Cracking the 5,000x potential is most likely to happen in the bonus round, as the bomper wilds remain sticky for as long as the feature lasts.
If you love Bompers you should also try:
Cygnus - is ELK’s gravity mechanic debut game, and it also comes with up to 262,144 win ways. Multiplier boosts up to 64x can come from special multiplier symbols, and these are sticky in the bonus round for payouts up to 5,000x your stake.
IO - is the second game in ELK’s gravity series, and you will again play with up to 262,144 paylines. Charged wilds can be part of up to 4 wins, and the wild forge feature increases the unlimited progressive multiplier. Both of these special wilds are sticky in the bonus round, accumulating on the bottom of the grid for payouts up to 5,000x your stake.
3 Devils Pinball - is one of Crazy Tooth’s oddball titles, and heavily inspired by the classic arcade game. Pinballs will shoot out at random times, expanding the reel set and leaving wilds in their wake. Multiplier bumpers can lead to 2,597x payouts in the bonus game.
